Let’s Work Together
Looking for land to hunt?
Island landowners are opening their land, and they need hunters they can trust. Home Ground matches vetted local hunters with private properties across Martha's Vineyard, and handles the permission, scheduling and landowner relationship so you can focus on the hunt.
What we ask of you:
A current Massachusetts hunting license and Basic Hunter Education certification
Respect for every landowner's rules: their days, boundaries and methods, every time
Report every deer you take. It's the law, and it's how the Island proves this works
Take does when you can. They're what brings the herd back into balance
What you get: organized access to land you couldn't get on your own, assigned on published criteria, not on who you know. Hunters who show up, follow the rules and report their harvest earn more opportunities over time.
We're now enrolling hunters for the 2026–27 season. Tell us about yourself below.
Already hunt private land? Bring your landowner with you.
If you have permission to hunt someone's property, ask them to fill out our landowner form and name you as their hunter. It takes about five minutes, and here's what it does for you:
Written permission on file, every season. Chilmark and Aquinnah require written landowner permission to hunt, and so does West Tisbury for firearms. Once your landowner enrolls, we issue you a signed permission letter that renews each season until they say otherwise.
Your spot stays yours, as long as you're hunting it. We never put another hunter on land you already hunt unless you and the landowner ask us to.
Tell us where you hunt, and we'll keep others clear. The more we know about where hunters are already set up, the better we can place new hunters away from your stand, wherever the land is in our program. Your location stays with Home Ground. We never share where you hunt with any other hunter unless you tell us to.
First call on new land nearby. When a property near land you already hunt enrolls, you get the first offer on the part of it within a quarter mile of your ground (440 yds). You know the ground, you know the deer, and the landowner gets a neighbor instead of a stranger. If you can't take it, you can recommend a hunter you know. Anything beyond half a mile is assigned through our regular process, and you're welcome in that pool like every other hunter.
Every hunter, including anyone you recommend, must pass our vetting process and follow our rules.
Not ready to join, but want us to know where you hunt?
Tell us where your stand is, and we'll do our best to keep program hunters clear of it. Your location stays with Home Ground and is never shared with other hunters.
Register your stand location in the form below.
If you’re only looking for land to hunt, skip this form and complete the form below it only.
